Osteopathic Manual
Practitioner
Catherine has been an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner for 22 years. She earned her Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice (D.O.M.P.) in 2001 from the Canadian College of Osteopathy in Toronto after the acceptance of her thesis entitled ‘Clients Perception of the Effectiveness of Osteopathic Treatment in the 21st Century-A Survey’. She found that people choose osteopathic treatment because the practitioners treat the body globally(as a whole unit), find the cause of dysfunction, and are good listeners.
Catherine has practiced in the field of healthcare for 32 years, beginning her career as an Athletic Therapist. After completing her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from the University of Western Ontario, she went on to complete her Diploma in Sports Injury Management form Sheridan College in Oakville, a one of a kind program nationally at the time. She successfully passed the national certification exam to become a Certified Athletic Therapist CAT(C) in 1992.
Catherine worked in various settings as an Athletic Therapist including the athletic therapy department at Queens University and the Canadian Freestyle Ski Team. Catherine began her osteopathic studies while practicing as an Athletic Therapist as she wanted to use more hands on techniques that addressed the entire athlete, putting their body back into balance after being impacted by injury.
Catherine uses various osteopathic treatment techniques for a whole body, personalized approach. After many years of practice, her interest lies in the more subtle but powerful techniques that focus on the cranium(head), fluids(cerebrospinal and lymph) and viscera(organs). Osteopathy is an amazing therapeutic modality in that it affords practitioners to use techniques that they and the patient are comfortable with to arrive at the same successful alleviation of dysfunction.
Catherine is an active member of her professional association, the Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (OAO), where she served on the board of directors for six years. Her interest lies in empowering individuals to understand the multifaceted nature of themselves and how mind, emotion and spirit impact upon their physical health. Catherine is always available for complimentary meet and greets.
