Registered Massage Therapy

Registered Massage Therapy is also known as Swedish Massage. It is the hands-on manipulation of soft tissues (muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments) to relieve the effects of stress and injury on the body. Massage therapy has a therapeutic effect and improves health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems, not to mention the obvious benefit and importance of reducing stress! RMTs must be licensed and are regulated by the Ontario government and the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Massage Therapy can be performed with many different approaches and amounts of pressure, from relaxation-focussed to deep tissue, depending on the needs of the client. Throughout all of her treatments, Tanya consciously makes effort to relieve the client of pain, while at the same time promoting a deep sense of relaxation. Tanya Hamlet has received specialized training in Lymphatic Drainage massage and focuses on this important skill.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is a connective tissue layer that binds groups of muscles together and provides resistance allowing the muscles to perform their actions. Spanning larger planes of our body, fascia has the potential to become shortened and restricted, having a broad effect upon our muscles, posture, and circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids. Myofascial Release is a form of dry massage that works deeply with the fascial layer, addressing an area of chief complaint through the entire length of that fascial plane. This is a very intense style of treatment. Myofascial Release is usually most suited to sports athletes, and those that are very physically hard on their bodies, although may also be a needed component of recovery from injuries involving a high amount of scar tissue.
